
Six-Month Activity Highlights (May–November 2025)
This summary shows the key work I have carried out in my first six months as County Councillor for Highley.
Every point below reflects direct actions I’ve taken on behalf of residents.
🚧 Highways and Road Safety – What I’ve Done

Organised and pushed through pothole repair days across Highley

Logged, chased and escalated multiple drainage failures and blocked gullies

Raised and pursued Vicarage Lane flooding caused by resurfacing
-
Challenged poor pavement resurfacing and requested formal re-inspection
-
Secured the removal of wheelchair and pram restrictive loops on the Hawthorn to Yew Tree footpath
-
Reported and escalated three accident incidents at the telephone exchange footpath

Raised restricted visibility and access issues at Beechcroft Corner
-
Held regular calls with Highways officers to drive progress on open cases
🚌 Public Transport – What I’ve Done

Secured the early 125 timetable change so students could catch the Bridgnorth to Shrewsbury bus
-
Requested that the 08:21 service be restored to 08:08 due to resident delays to work
🌧 Drainage, Odour and Environmental Issues – What I’ve Done

Addressed repeated odour complaints around Kinlet View and Netherton Lane with Severn Trent

Secured installation of a hydrogen sulphide (H2S) monitor after persistent issues
- Pressured Severn Trent to carry out sewer, tank and wet well cleans and agree a regular cleaning programme

Requested manhole inspections and resealing to reduce odour escapes

Maintained ongoing communication with Severn Trent to push long-term solutions
🏡 Housing, Planning and Resident Support – What I’ve Done

Supported STAR Housing adaptation requests for resident with mobility needs

Helped residents facing issues with private landlords

Assisted residents experiencing homelessness with referrals and guidance

Provided advice and support for boundary and high-hedge disputes

Helped residents understand planning processes and submit objections
-
Highlighted instances of poor planning notice placement to the Planning Team
♿ Accessibility and Blue Badges – What I’ve Done

Supported several residents through difficult Blue Badge applications
-
Attended a councillor briefing and raised concerns about the restrictive assessment process
-
Challenged the policy requiring patient summaries only
-
Raised issues with GP letters being rejected
-
Challenged the refusal of independent medical assessments
-
Advocated for a more fair and person-centred assessment approach
🏥 Health and Community Engagement – What I’ve Done

Took part in the major Highley health visit with Highley Medical Practice, Primary Care Network, Public Health Team, Halo Leisure, the Parish Council and the UK Chief Medical Officer.

Contributed to discussions on rural primary care access, mental health and health inequalities
🏛 Scrutiny and Governance – What I’ve Done

Represented Highley on the Economy and Environment Scrutiny Committee

Served on the Audit and Governance Committee

Challenged the Kier Highways contract on performance and value

Opposed increased spending on the Ludlow pyrolysis proposal
-
Contributed to scrutiny of transport, flood resilience, waste, and the Council’s financial position
A substantial amount of work has been undertaken, but there is much more to do.
